Description
Under the direction of Unit Director, the Monitor Technician (MT) performs unit functions such as viewing monitor screen for changes in patient cardiac rhythm and notifying RN of any changes noted, transcribing physician orders, etc., appropriate to the position and in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. Notifies RN in a timely manner of changes in patients’ cardiac rhythm. Acknowledges physician orders in an accurate and timely manner. Keeps RN informed of pertinent data and notify the appropriate RN of any patient or family concerns in a timely manner. Maintains an organized work environment (which may include files, supplies, equipment, etc) to ensure easy retrievability and physical professional appearance. Assumes accountability for repair and location of monitoring equipment. Demonstrates responsibility for own competency/mandatories and annual performance evaluation by maintaining all personal data up-to-date. Meets educational requirements for new equipment, materials, procedures and technology; prepares for the performance evaluation conference by submitting required documents one month prior to due date. Maintains proficiency of cardiac rhythm interpretation through testing and audits of documentation. Adheres to and consistently supports professional standards and health care regulations that provide for and promote safety, quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining knowledge base of current unit and hospital communication through a variety of modalities including but limited to communication books, posted notices, meeting minutes, Jackson Hospital intranet and Jackson Hospital email. Qualifications High School Graduate or G.E.D. Education in medical terminology preferred. Previous experience in basic EKG interpretations preferred. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, time management and customer focused skills. Ability to form effective working relationships with hospital staff. Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions. Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and handle unit supplies weighing a minimum of 30 pounds. Hearing and visual acuity necessary for cardiac monitoring. Ability to sit and remain alert for prolonged periods of time without breaks. Ability to communicate effectively verbally. Ability to meet the attendance requirements of the job.
