JOB SUMMARY

The Montessori Lead Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a nurturing, prepared environment that aligns with Montessori philosophy and encourages independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning in children. The Lead Teacher guides the classroom using child-centered, developmentally appropriate practices, and provides leadership and mentorship to support staff and assistants.

  • Classroom Management: Confidently leads a group of children using clear structure and gentle guidance.
  • Observation & Assessment: Strong ability to observe, interpret, and respond to each child’s developmental needs.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interactions with parents, staff, and children.
  • Adaptability: Flexible and responsive to individual children’s needs and classroom dynamics.
  • Organization: Maintains a well-prepared and orderly learning environment.
  • Leadership: Provides mentorship and direction to classroom assistants and support staff.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Shows empathy, patience, and sensitivity when working with young children.
  • Conflict Resolution: Able to guide children and staff through problem-solving in a peaceful, respectful way.
  • Creativity: Brings new ideas and enrichment activities into the Montessori setting while staying true to its philosophy.
  • Montessori Certification from an accredited institution (e.g., AMI).
  • Experience working with children in a Montessori classroom (typically 1–3 years preferred).
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate or equivalent (as required by local licensing regulations).
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification and Criminal Record Check (or equivalent background check).
  • Strong understanding of child development and the Montessori philosophy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and support a positive classroom culture.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver Montessori lessons in accordance with the curriculum and the needs of each child.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating Montessori environment.
  • Observe and assess students’ development, documenting progress and adjusting lessons as needed.
  • Foster respectful and positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
