MORTGAGE LOAN UNDERWRITING TEAM LEAD

The Mortgage Loan Underwriting Team Lead assists the Underwriting Manager in pipeline management and leads a team of Underwriters. The Underwriting Team Lead is to handle all urgent questions and help train new employees.

QUALIFICATIONS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE INCLUDE:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) with 4 years’ experience in the industry is required. Prior underwriting background is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of department processes
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Extreme attention to detail and high work ethic
  • Knowledge of loan guidelines to include, but not limited to, FHA Streamline and VA IRRLS, Conventional, FHA, VA, VHDA, and USDA mortgage loans

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze loan applicants’ credit histories, financial statements and other financial information to make quality decisions on loans
  • Interpret and analyze complex tax returns and financial documents
  • Answers urgent and escalated questions from the team of Underwriters
  • Monitor pipeline for proper workflow
  • Help train new employees and help with peer reviews
  • Must be detailed in loan approval rationale including income and asset calculations clearly noted
  • Ability to review legal documentation, title reports, insurance policies, flood certificates
  • Demonstrate ability to comprehend program changes and new program guidelines
  • Implement new changes in daily production immediately with minimal error rate
  • Maintain knowledge of available loan products, programs and functionality and investor guidelines
  • Utilize and interpret output from DO, LP and GUS underwriting systems
  • Adherence to policies and procedures
  • Practices branch security procedures and protects customer confidentiality and privacy
  • May perform additional duties as necessary to keep the Bank operating efficiently and effectively
