MORTGAGE LOAN UNDERWRITER

We are seeking a full-time Mortgage Loan Underwriter to work on-site at our Central Road Operations Center.
The Mortgage Loan Underwriter performs a variety of duties to support the mortgage loan underwriting functions to include; the ability to collaborate with loan originators, loan processors/closers, attorneys and title companies in a professional and positive manner in order to efficiently underwrite loan files.

Requirements: The selected candidate must have the following skills:

  • A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent required with a preference for an advanced degree in a business or financial related field of study.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in banking and/or related position preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of the mortgage loan process and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of underwriting guidelines for both conforming and non-conforming loans.
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook, with an ability to adapt to a changing technological environment.
  • Attention to detail
Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of duties to support the mortgage loan underwriting function, including but not limited to:
  • Work with originators, loan processor/closers, attorneys and title companies in a professional and positive manner in order to efficiently underwrite loan files.
  • Working knowledge of investor guidelines as well as continuing education to comply with Seller/Servicer Guides.
  • Monitor and ensure bank compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Monitor and ensure loan compliance with Bank Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensuring data integrity exists with every transaction; including, but not limited to, income calculation, loan to value requirements, TILA/RESPA Integrated Disclosure rule compliance, and appraisal compliance.
  • Ability to analyze different forms of income and calculate the borrower’s ability to repay based on Seller/Servicer Guides or Bank Policy.
  • Ensuring that all loans are cleared and released to the loan closer with adequate time to meet the expected closing date.
  • Managing a loan pipeline by meeting or exceeding deadlines reflected in real estate contracts. Ability to work within management established turnaround times.
  • Collect, review, and index acceptable documentation in a timely manner.
  • Sell and deliver completed loans to secondary market investors.
  • Prepare correspondence memos, forms, tables and reports.
  • Verify all loans have proper approval and meet bank policy.
  • Provides leadership, on-the-job training, and technical guidance to Mortgage Loan Processors/Closers.
  • Place, direct, and assist with internal and external phone calls
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and promotes the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety, soundness, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This includes annual Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training and complying with all BSA rules and regulations as they pertain to the job position within the Bank.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week, some additional hours as needed
