Description I. INTRODUCTION A. This position is located within the Raleigh Radiology facilities, free-standing outpatient imaging centers located in Wake County, NC, and surrounding areas. B. The primary function of the Technologist Assistant is to coordinate, in conjunction with the other staff and leadership, the movement of patients through the system, assist with exam protocoling and process medical records as required. C. This position reports to the Technologist – Lead and Senior Manager of Clinical Operations. II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1) Patient Care Responsibilities 70% a) Organizes the movement of patients from the main waiting room to sub-waiting rooms. b) Assists patients who need help dressing/undressing, toileting, etc. c) Explain procedures to patients in layman's terms and answer questions within his/her scope. d) Assists patients who have difficulty ambulating. Provides wheelchair assistance to and from the auto, if necessary. e) Maintains constant oversight of various waiting and dressing areas to ensure the safety of patients. f) Responsible for maintenance of all patients' waiting areas – keeps all areas clean, neat, and hazard-free. g) Stocks a sufficient amount of linen in patient care areas. h) Removes soiled linen to an appropriate storage closet. i) Maintains standards of professional care. j) Implements policies and procedures of Raleigh Radiology. k) Assesses patient’s condition (physical and psychosocial); prioritizes needs. l) Reports and records pertinent observations to appropriate personnel. m) Assists with specific tests and procedures as needed and within scope. n) Participates in the economical utilization of supplies. o) Assures that equipment is always maintained and available for use. p) Assists coworkers and physicians in giving care to patients. q) Establishes and maintains open communication. r) Assists with / or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences in patients. s) Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for patients and staff. t) Stocks various areas with necessary supplies – paper, contrast, magazines, etc. u) On a regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members in the accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness, and respect; conducts oneself in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful, and kind when dealing with team members, visitors, public and all employees. v) Delivers oral contrast and drinking instructions to CT patients. w) Scans documents and completes studies in RIS with notes and directions from technologists. x) Sets up and assists in IV starts and power injector loading, and assesses patients during IV contrast delivery. y) Assists with positioning and immobilization for patients as needed. z) Maintains supply par levels and communicates supply needs to leadership and assists in the distribution of supplies when delivered for all modalities. aa) Calls referrers to clarify orders, request orders, and provide results; maintains all communication with referrers in RIS. bb) Performs other duties and accepts responsibility, as assigned. Requirements III. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE 100% A. Education: High school / GED graduate. B. Experience: No prior experience required. C. Certification: BLS is required within the first 90 days of employment. D. Licensure: None The Tech Assistant functions with oversight by the Senior Manager of Clinical Operations, although considerable independent work is required. Review of work is generally limited to assurance that work performed is in accordance with policies and procedures. The employee is expected to inform management when unforeseen events/circumstances require significant changes.
