Description Job Description: To operate and maintain a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner to obtain images on patients to diagnose the nature and extent of designated pathologies, while ensuring patient safety and comfort. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging procedures and technology. Knowledge of specifications, standards, and tolerances for the operation of MRI equipment and facilities. Skill in the operation of magnetic resonance film processors and ancillary equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to alleviate patient anxiety. Responsibilities: Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures. Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records medical history relevant to the condition being viewed, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results. Develops and views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation. Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor. Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort to patient. Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices. Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires constant exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more) Requirements Education & Experience: Certifications, Licenses or Registration required: Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health and Radiography (R) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association required post-hire within 90 days. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required post-hire within twenty-four (24) months. Job applications may be accepted for candidates that currently meet the minimum qualifications or candidates actively pursuing the certifications, licenses, or registration requirements who will meet all minimum requirements within three (3) months. Minimum qualifications must be satisfied prior to starting work.
