Job Details Job Location: Bartram Campus - Jacksonville, FL 32207 Job Category: Academics Position Scope: The Middle School Social Studies Teacher is responsible for teaching social studies courses to students in grades 6–8, with an emphasis on geography and related social studies disciplines. The position includes curriculum planning, instruction, assessment of student learning, and participation in the academic and community life of the school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the Middle School social studies curriculum, with an emphasis on geography and related topics Communicate clear course objectives, expectations, and assessment criteria Use a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and support different learning styles Design and administer assessments and provide timely, constructive feedback Assign and evaluate written work, projects, and presentations Foster geographic literacy, critical thinking, and global awareness Maintain a positive and well-managed classroom environment Support students experiencing academic or adjustment challenges Maintain accurate attendance and grading records Prepare report cards and written student comments Communicate regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress Coordinate and supervise class field trips as appropriate Maintain scheduled availability to support and advise students Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and interdisciplinary initiatives Participate in professional development to remain current in social studies content and instructional practices Integrate appropriate instructional technology and resources Advisory and School Involvement Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, supporting their academic and social development Participate in school activities, including overnight field trips, and contribute to the broader Middle School program Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies, Geography, Education, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred Minimum of three years of middle school or secondary social studies teaching experience required Independent school experience preferred Demonstrated ability to create an engaging and active learning environment Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills Proficiency in the use of instructional technology Ability to build positive relationships with adolescents, families, and colleagues Interest in contributing to the school’s co-curricular and extracurricular programs, including athletics, student clubs, or other school activities, is preferred but not required General Expectations Demonstrate enthusiastic support for the mission and values of The Bolles School Act in a professional manner that reflects positively on the school Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with students, families, and colleagues Contribute positively to the school community
