Essential Duties: Spiritual Formation: Intentionally provide opportunities for staff to grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus. Participate in opportunities for growing deeper in your relationship with Jesus. With direction from the supervisor, develop an annual personal spiritual growth plan. Complete spiritual formation training and review personal spiritual formation statement on a yearly basis. Participate in all Young Life Camping training opportunities. Attentive Hospitality: Equip servant leaders who anticipate and respond to the needs of our guests, staff and vendors through Christ-like service. Support a department posture of service that anticipates guest needs and responds professionally through intentional decisions and systems. Tasks may include: Guiding, Projects, and general ranch work Maintain all equipment assigned to your role such as farm equipment, cattle processing equipment, feeding equipment, ranch trucks, atv’s, heavy equipment, and others assigned. Develop task lists for ranch assistants and provide oversight of that position. Provide leadership and supervision of seasonal hires, interns, and volunteer groups. Execute regenerative ranching practices as a tool to care and manage for ranch resources. Utilize natural ecosystem functions as the principals for management decisions. Camp or Job Specific Working Conditions: This position requires that the staff person be able to lift at least fifty (50) pounds of materials waist high, operate trucks with trailers, heavy equipment, and various hand tools. In addition the staff person must be able to stand on his/her feet for at least eight hours a day, bend, twist, carry and do other physical activities necessary to perform this job. The majority of the job will take place outside in remote areas and the staff person will be exposed to heat, cold and various climate conditions. This position requires the person to be able to operate ATV’s and UTV’s for long days. Education: 2 years experience guiding for guide positions 2 years experience with Heavy Equipment Qualifications and desired skills for the job: Understanding of ecosystem restoration. Understanding of wildlife management and guiding hunts. Desire to execute regenerative farming and ranching practices. Experience operating heavy equipment. Welding experience. Ability to lead a group of people or volunteers to accomplish a project. Desire to build relationships with local ranchers and neighbors. Wildland fire fighting experience preferred. Have the capacity to execute ranch infrastructure development projects including water developments, fencing, road installation, wildlife habitat development, and recreation venues. Job Specific Working Conditions: Muddy Ranch exists to create a place where lives are changed by Christ. We are a production agricultural operation spanning a large acreage of rangeland as well as irrigated ground. We run mother cows, yearlings, harvest hay, and provide world class outdoor adventures aimed at pursuing the hearts of adults in order to further the mission of Young Life in telling kids about Jesus. This position would be focused on maintaining all of Muddy Ranch’s equipment. We have numerous pieces of equipment including but not limited to: excavators, dozers, semi-truck, farm tractors, swather, large baler, trucks, UTV, ATV, small engines, trailers, cattle feed truck, cattle handling equipment, fire apparatus, and others. You will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of all Muddy Ranch equipment. You will work in an equipped auto shop that is shared with Washing Family Ranch’s mechanic. You will also be provided a service truck, as many repairs are made in the field. You will also have the opportunity to help with our cattle and farming operation as needed. You will help with moving cattle, processing cattle, and some haying operations. You will also be asked to assist in fire suppression efforts on wildland fires. Experience in this is not necessary and training will be provided. Experience needed: Diesel mechanic Hydraulic systems Automotive and small engine repair Welding Equipment operation Have experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, excavators Be comfortable working alone Good problem solver Passion for stewarding God’s creation with regenerative agricultural practices Muddy Ranch is apart of the Washington Family Ranch Community and Camp Staff. Most of the staff and families who work at WFR live on property and we are located about 50 miles from the nearest grocery store in Madras, Oregon. Affordable housing is available on property. Notes: Young Life is a relational ministry. Staff must be able to convey a sense of Christ-like hospitality and concern for guests and staff. Responding to the unexpected needs of a guest in a prompt and professional manner is important. All staff members are expected to represent Young Life positively and professionally within the community and be able to work with and minister to the volunteer high school and college-age young people who attend our camp.
