The Opportunity: Working remotely but travelling to assignments within the Greater Toronto Area, the successful candidate will be expected to cover various types of news events and support with video production. Applicants are expected to have excellent news judgment, an understanding of political issues at all levels and demonstrable strengths in accurate, clean reporting, plus a proven ability to initiate stories and enterprise features. Candidates must be familiar with emerging digital trends and opportunities, be able to shoot, edit and produce videos and know how to leverage social media and digital platforms to break news and reach audiences. They must be comfortable with filing stories for multiple platforms on tight deadlines and be keen to learn and experiment to find new ways to tell stories and engage readers. What you’ll do: Write stories for print, web and mobile audiences, tailoring content to meet the varying needs of those platforms. Initiate and develop ideas for enterprise stories and investigative projects. Cultivate sources and establish expertise to break stories and set the news agenda. Who you are: A journalism degree or diploma At least five years of experience in a fast-paced and evolving media environment Proven ability to deliver accurateand compelling news reports and videos on tight deadlines Superior writing skills and news judgment A respected social media footprint Familiarity with appearing on video Applicant must own a reliable vehicle with insurance for work purposes. The position involves shift work, including evenings and weekends. Compensation: Employment offers presented to the selected candidate are based on a combination of qualifications, experience, responsibilities of the role and the candidate's location.
