JOB SUMMARY

The Multispecialty Sonographer performs basic to advanced ultrasound services. These may include abdominal, Ob/Gyn, cardiac, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small parts. This position examines the patient’s clinical history to identify the examination’s purpose. It frames the clinical questions the examination aims to answer and expands the examination as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Performs various specialty ultrasound procedures using different equipment and techniques. Makes necessary measurements for accurate and high-quality interpretation results.
  • Identifies and defines abnormalities specific to the procedure. Extends the examination scope appropriately, deviating from standard techniques when necessary. Correlates other diagnostic test results with anatomy and function. Utilizes appropriate protection measures during procedures.
  • May assist physicians in procedure and operating rooms by performing ultrasound studies. This aids in complex procedures and decreases risk factors.
  • Prepares patients for procedures and obtains clinical history, including physical findings and lab data. Adapts imaging techniques for comprehensive exams to avoid errors. Explains the purpose of the ultrasound examination to the patient and answers questions.
  • Imaging team members must follow policies, procedures, and workflows. These include PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and BioMed services.
  • Records statistics and performs daily maintenance of the ultrasound Lab and its equipment, reporting all malfunctions as appropriate.
  • Acts as a resource to team members, physicians and students regarding equipment, techniques, procedures, and studies to optimize patient care.
  • Works closely with ultrasound team members to ensure quality processes and follow protocols. Assists with unit or organization accreditation activities as delegated.
  • Implements protocols as new technology evolves, ensures implementation and adherence to system standards.
  • Assures operation of equipment by performing quality checks following manufacturer’s recommendations and troubleshooting equipment as required.
