QUALIFICATIONS

This Municipal Engineer I is an entry level position that requires a University degree in Engineering or a related field, or certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) with a Canadian Regulatory/Licensing Association. Experience with a focus on transportation will be preferred. A valid NWT Class 5 Driver’ s license is also required.
The incumbent must be skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite including software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The incumbent must be able to demonstrate an ability to build strong relationships quickly with internal and external stakeholders, to establish effective channels of communication and a collaborative working relationship. Strong communication skills are required, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information in an appealing and easy to understand manner, both verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Public WorksEngineering, the Municipal Engineer I is responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation and reporting of infrastructure, municipal services and programs according to the City’s short and long term strategic objectives. This position will focus on transportation items including, but not limited to, development of the City’s Transportation Master Plan, oversight of the Yellowknife Transit System, and investigation of sign requests.
