Job Title: Municipal Worker I - Events Department: Arts & Culture Classification: Part-Time, Nonexempt, Seasonal May - September up to 20 hours a week Reports to: Arts & Culture Manager Pay: $18.00/hour GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Municipal Worker I – Events performs entry-level event, custodial, and maintenance support for Arts & Culture facilities. Work includes room setups, basic cleaning, general labor, and helping prepare event spaces at the SteamPlant Event Center, Rotary Scout Hut, Riverside Park, and the downtown Salida Creative District. This position follows established procedures and works under close or general supervision. Must be available for evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. REPORTING & ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Arts & Culture Manager and works collaboratively with Arts & Culture staff, other City departments, community partners, and facility users to ensure seamless and high-quality operations. The City of Salida retains the right to modify or change the essential and additional functions of the job at any time. * Open and secure facilities before and after events. * Set up, arrange, and move furniture, equipment, and décor for meetings, programs, and events. * Perform routine cleaning of buildings and grounds, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces. * Clean kitchens and restrooms; replenish supplies. * Assist with carpet cleaning, stripping, waxing, buffing, and polishing surfaces as directed. * Perform basic outdoor upkeep including trash pickup, debris removal, and snow/ice removal. * Clean windows, fixtures, walls, furniture, and work areas. * Assist in maintaining custodial equipment and storage areas. * Identify and report facility repair needs or safety concerns. * Ensure equipment and supplies are stored safely and appropriately. * Ensure event setups follow lease requirements, fire code, and safety standards. * Assist with the smooth turnover of events and contribute to efficient workflow processes. * Provide courteous customer service to patrons, renters, performers, and vendors. * Support the efficient turnover of event spaces between events. * Notify the Arts & Culture Manager when repairs, safety concerns, or operational needs arise. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: * Strong customer service and communication skills. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to work independently or as part of a team. * Ability to organize tasks and manage time effectively. * Basic understanding of safety procedures. * Ability to work effectively with the public and in fast-paced environments. * Ability to prioritize work and respond to deadlines. * Ability to work a variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays * Willingness to learn event-production operations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * High school diploma or GED. * Experience in event support, custodial operations, or facility maintenance preferred but not required. ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: The majority of this position’s duties are performed at the SteamPlant Event Center, Rotary Scout Hut, Riverside Park, and throughout the downtown Salida Creative District. The role is physically demanding and requires the ability to safely operate a variety of equipment and to perform frequent event setups, including moving and arranging tables, chairs, and other furnishings. This position requires the ability to maintain balance and body control while bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and performing repetitive movements. Employees must be able to maneuver across varied terrain, surfaces, and physical structures and lift or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
