Looking to join the team of the world’s biggest and best football museum?
We exist to house and harness the power of football, to share stories that influence, to showcase culture and involve and motivate people to creatively engage. We are the place to experience football in all its glory. We are the place to experience why Football Matters.
We are now recruiting for a number of part time Museum Assistant roles.
3 x Museum Assistants (11 hours per week)
1 x Museum Assistant (15 hours per week)
The hours above will vary across 7 days per week and will include evenings/weekends. Rotas will be based on standard availability and published at least 4 weeks in advance. Additional hours may also be available across busy periods.
Playing a key role in our front of house team you will work across our galleries, admissions desk and shop as required, both within the day and at evening events within our unique building in the heart of Manchester.
The successful candidate will play a vital part in each visitor’s experience. You will be expected to deliver a truly memorable level of customer service, proactively engaging with all visitors ensuring that they feel welcome and valued.

Key areas of responsibility and accountability:

  • Provide a warm, vibrant welcome to all visitors creating a positive impression of the museum, assisting visitors in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.
  • Seek to engage, interact and communicate with visitors throughout the museum
  • Expertly demonstrate full knowledge of the museum’s facilities, exhibits and exhibitions and be able to convey information regarding other visitor attractions locally.
  • Assist with learning activities and any income generating activity.
  • Assist with keeping all gallery areas clean and well presented, including clearing away after events and assisting with event set-ups.
  • Monitor the flow of visitors and queue manage activities as required.
  • Deliver tours of the museum’s galleries and other interactive talks to visitors as and when required.
  • Work as a retail assistant helping serve visitors and carry out merchandising and stock management tasks as required.
  • Welcome and serve visitors at our welcome wing, selling tickets and verifying pre-booked visitors.
  • Provide a vigilant security presence within the galleries and public areas of the museum ensuring that no damage occurs to the exhibits, or to the fixtures or fittings within the building.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • A passion for the role and the ability to inspire both visitors and colleagues
  • Enthusiasm and ability to provide a superb visitor experience
  • Experience in a customer facing service environment in a similar role.
  • Excellent inter-personal, verbal communication skills
  • An ability to work on own initiative.
  • A responsible, professional and positive attitude.
  • Cash handling experience desirable but not essential
