JOB SUMMARY:

At the City of Toronto, the Museum Site Coordinators oversee museum operations, staff, and public visitation to ensure the success of the City’s network of municipal museums.
You’ll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the museum and site staff by planning, developing, and evaluating the operational performance and the effective delivery of museum services in the City.
Working alongside communities, you’ll share authority with diverse stakeholders to ensure that the stories shared at the sites are inclusive to all - past, present and future.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

• Post-secondary education in History, Museum Studies, or another professional discipline pertinent to the job function, or an equivalent combination of education and lived experience.
• Experience motivating, leading, training, managing and supervising the day-to-day operations of assigned staff in a unionized environment, including monitoring and evaluating staff performance, and recommending disciplinary action when necessary.
• Experience developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating public programs or projects, including informal education programs for students in a museum setting.
• Experience developing, designing and delivering stakeholder/partner engagement and consultation activities, with the ability to build effective networks and partnerships with a broad spectrum of diverse stakeholders or partners.
• Experience in administering budgets, establishing budget priorities, developing revenue strategies, and achieving planned results.
  Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Collective Agreements, related employment legislation, Ontario Human Rights and commitment to Truth and Reconciliation is essential, and lived experience as a member of a Black, Indigenous or other People of Colour community would be an asset. • Supervises the day to day museum operation, provides staff direction, strategic planning, development and coordination of programs for clients and the community.
• Recruits, selects, trains and monitors service delivery of all site staff. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments, hears grievances and recommends disciplinary action when necessary.
• Administers assigned operating budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled with approved budget and revenues are collected and deposited, in compliance with corporate finance policies and procedures.
• Identifies community visitor trends.
• Conducts the analysis of policies and procedures, develops and initiates plans to ensure effective operational planning and service delivery.
• Liaises with various client groups, including teachers, group leaders, volunteer organizations, community partners and outside business partners to promote museum programs.
• Develops and delivers new equitable and inclusive educational and exhibit programs for a variety of client groups in response to changing community needs, capacities and assets.
• Plans, develops, administers, and supports the evaluation processes and coordinates the museums’ existing interpretive services and other public services.
• Participates in the planning and completion of grant applications.
• Evaluates visitor and community needs and coordinates on-site response.
• Ensures compliance with security and health and safety matters.
• Contributes to the development and implementation of marketing activities for the Museum.
• Develops a long-term plan for the facility in accordance with the Division’s strategic plan.
• Leads staff in the development of existing and new programs at the museum in response to the requirements of Economic Development and Culture.
• Implements detailed plans and recommends policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
• Maintains relationships with various client groups, including teachers, other group leaders, volunteer organizations, community partners, and outside business partners.
• Improves operational performance through evaluating, expenditures and attendance figures, and adjusts operations accordingly.
• Ensures compliance with safety and security matters under Occupational Health and Safety legislation and divisional safety and security policies, including work place accommodations.
