DESCRIPTION

The Music and Audio Research Laboratory (MARL) welcomes applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate position. The position is for research on developing applied machine learning solutions to spatial audio analysis and generation. The work is funded and is in collaboration with SONY, as part of the new SONY/NYU Audio Institute of Music Business and Technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned doctorate (by the start date) in computer science, electrical engineering, music computing or related disciplines
  • Strong coding skills and experience with cluster/parallel computing
  • Advanced knowledge of deep machine learning, preferably generative models
  • Advanced knowledge of audio signal processing, preferably spatial/multichannel audio
  • Experience in music information retrieval is desirable
  • A record of peer-reviewed publication as first author
  • Evidence of collaborative work

Expectations:

  • Research on novel generative ML approaches for multichannel audio and music
  • Research on novel generative ML approaches for acoustic parameters and responses
  • Leading research team and mentoring students
  • Disseminating research outcomes through publications, presentations, data and code repositories
  • Active contribution to open code/data efforts in the lab
  • Contribution to the development of new projects, partnerships and grants

Terms of the position:

  • This is a Full-time, in person, position based in New York City
  • Preferred start date: September, 2025 or shortly after
  • Starting salary: $70,000/year plus benefits
  • 1-year contract, renewable for another year based on performance

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $70,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
