EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bacherlor’s Degree in Music Education required;
  • Masters in Music Education preferred
  • New York State Initial, Provisional or Permanent Certification in Music Education

Experience:

  • Experience with special needs and / or medically fragile children
  • 1 years of teaching experience

EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language fluently.
  • Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this Center, which includes a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Perform tasks that may involve exposure to the resident’s blood/body fluids.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents, if necessary

Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION

Responsible for developing and implementing a program of specialized instruction for an assigned caseload (infants, toddlers, preschool and school age children) in individual and group format based on IEP goals.

  • Understands and promotes Elizabeth Seton Children’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure application with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of NYS Learning Standards through the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans that address the individual goals of students and strengthen the continuity of learning experiences between home and school.
  • Create an organized classroom to ensure a safe and educationally challenging learning environment (delegate responsibilities to paraprofessional staff appropriately, maintain materials and equipment in good repair, utilize concepts of universal design in room arrangement, etc.).
  • Collaborate with classroom team to design lesson plans based on effective practices in child development and utilize current evidence based practices to monitor progress and ensure positive student outcomes.
  • Write accurate and timely evaluations, quarterly progress reports and draft IEP/ISFP documents in accordance with all regulations.
  • Utilize resources of supervisory and administrative staff to: discuss any staff and family issues; share concerns and make recommendations regarding policies and procedures that would improve quality of services for students and families.
  • Demonstrate ability to present written and or verbal information at staff conferences and other meetings in an professional manner that clearly conveys the needs and strengths of each child in a positive and meaningful way
  • Plan and organize student performances.
  • Serve as clinical instructor for music therapy students interns.
  • Actively participate in the creation and implementation of an individual and School wide Professional Development Plan that inspires personal growth, informs teaching practices and promotes understanding of the NYS Teaching Standards.
  • Act as substitute in the classroom when requested.
  • Perform other tasks to support the operations of the school as assigned by School Administration
