As NPR’s flagship member station in Southern California for more than 30 years and a community service of Santa Monica College, KCRW is the next generation of public media. HOW YOU’LL MAKE AN IMPACT The Music Department Fellow reports to the Executive Producer, Music Department, and supports the execution of KCRW’s music programming across radio, digital, and live events. This role contributes to content gathering, publishing, and production workflows while assisting team leaders, producers, and partners in delivering high-quality music experiences.  This 13-month fellowship opportunity offers meaningful access to the inner workings of public media, music curation, and multiplatform production, helping to cultivate the next generation of voices in the music and media landscape. Responsibilities include supporting digital publishing, assisting with artist and event logistics, contributing to audience engagement efforts, and providing general production and operational support across the department. HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL DO * Assist with content gathering, preparation, and delivery across music programming * Support digital publishing, including posting show archives, playlists, and features across KCRW platforms * Assist with production and publishing of Today’s Top Tune, 5 Songs, and related content (music selection provided by Music Director) * Help maintain and update event listings across KCRW and third-party platforms * Assist Music Department leadership with organization, scheduling, and planning needs * Support artist coordination and event logistics for live sessions and programming * Serve as a production assistant for Live From sessions and other recordings * Assist producers with ongoing projects, research, and content preparation as needed * Support audience and community engagement initiatives, including newsletters and social media distribution * Provide on-site support at events, including activations such as KCRW Presents, Summer Nights, and School Night HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL BRING * Passion for music discovery and KCRW’s mission * Strong organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment * Clear communication skills and a willingness to support team needs * Interest in music programming, digital media, and live events * General knowledge of music genres, trends, and the broader music landscape PREFERRED SKILL * Familiarity with digital platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube * Basic experience with content management systems or digital publishing tools * Interest in social media and audience engagement strategies * Previous internship, campus media, or related experience WHAT WE OFFER * Hourly: $28.85 * Hybrid work schedule for select positions * Eligible for overtime and premium working holiday pay rate * Sick leave award * Vacation leave accrual * Paid holidays * Health insurance (including medical, dental, vision, FSA, life and AD&D) eligibility * 403(b) with company match * Passionate office environment surrounded by an incredible community of curious and talented colleagues * KCRW is a qualifying employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program - read more here [https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service] to determine your eligibility KCRW aims to be representative of Southern California, and candidates with traditionally underrepresented backgrounds and perspectives are encouraged to apply.
