Description Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment! At Jockey Hollow, there are 212 pristine acres to explore and enjoy. With a large "L"-shaped swimming pool, Low Ropes Challenge Course and Zip Line, beautiful equestrian center, archery range, playing field, and adventurous hiking trails, the fun is endless! The Music Specialist is responsible for creating a fun and safe outdoor learning environment for campers by developing an engaging music program at camp which includes teaching classes. Immediate Supervisor: Program Director Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Attend all sessions required of position at Pre-Camp Orientation Teaching classes provide fun, informative, and skill-building music lessons for children. Provides safety orientation to equipment and safety procedures. Set up samples of available programs with directions. Provide some pre-camp training: teach staff some activities and give information on activities available. Lead daily music sessions for units or all-camp programs (e.g., themed sing-alongs, music workshops, campfire songs). Teach traditional Girl Scout songs as well as age-appropriate contemporary songs. Introduce campers to new instruments (ukulele, hand drums, rhythm sticks, bells, etc.) and teach basic techniques Create structured lesson plans that are fun, inclusive, and suitable for varying age groups and abilities. Integrate music into camp culture, helping build traditions, morale, and group bonding. Submits seasonal reports and evaluation of program activities. Promotes high camper and staff morale. Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights Performs other duties as requested Daily Rate: $123 (new staff) - $128 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $16.40 - $17.07 per hour respectively. Requirements Minimum age: 18 years of age. Be able to generate interest in music and the outdoors among campers by developing and delivering an age-appropriate programming. Willing to be certified in archery and/or challenge course (training and certification provided by camp). Hold or be willing to obtain current certification of standard First Aid and CPR (training to be provided). Physical Requirements Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds. Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
