Position Summary
We are looking for passionate and adaptable Music Teachers to join our growing team. Teachers will fly into remote communities for short-term residencies and/or deliver virtual lessons in between trips during the school year. This unique role is ideal for teachers who are open to travel, flexible in their teaching approach, and committed to inclusivity in education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging music instruction (instrumental, vocal, general music) to students aged 5–18, both in person and online.
- Develop age- and skill-appropriate lesson plans, adapting them to accommodate students with varying learning abilities, cultural backgrounds, and disabilities.
- Collaborate with local educators, community leaders, and support staff to integrate music programs meaningfully into the community context.
- Participate in community events, performances, and cultural exchanges when on site, when appropriate.
- Provide regular student progress reports and feedback to school leadership and families as appropriate.
- Maintain flexibility and sensitivity to students’ social-emotional needs, including trauma-informed teaching practices.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, including Indigenous cultural competency training.
- Ensure the safe set-up, use and storage of musical instruments and digital teaching equipment.
QualificationsEssential:
- Degree or diploma in Music, Music Education, or related discipline.
- Teaching experience (private, group, classroom) in music education.
- Proficiency in one or more instruments (piano, guitar, ukulele, drums, voice, strings, percussion, etc.).
- Strong communication and classroom management skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching style to online platforms (Zoom).
- Willingness and ability to travel via small aircraft to remote communities.
- Culturally sensitive and respectful of Indigenous perspectives and traditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Assets (Preferred but not required):
- Previous experience working in Indigenous or rural communities.
- B. Ed or Ontario/Canadian Teaching Certification.
- Special Education training or experience working with students with exceptionalities.
- Knowledge of music technology (e.g., DAWs, online notation tools).
- First Aid/CPR Certification.

Pay: $80.00-$100.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 6 per week
