About Musqueam We are traditional hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people. Today, we are a strong, growing community of over 1,300 members. We live on a small portion of our traditional territory, known as the Musqueam Indian Reserve, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The name Musqueam relates back to the River Plant, the name of the plant is məθkʷəy̓. There is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation that explains how we became known as the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - People of the River Plant. We have always moved throughout our territory using the resources it provides for fishing, hunting, trapping and gathering. We remain distinct and our cultural practices are strong, despite the devastating impacts of residential schools, colonial laws banning our ceremonies, and other attempts to assimilate our people. Our lands and waters continue to support our cultural and economic practices while serving as a source of knowledge and memory, encoded with our teachings and laws. To learn more about Musqueam, please visit www.musqueam.bc.ca Position Summary Reporting to the Community Planner, the Musqueam Census Data Collectors are responsible for distributing the Musqueam Census survey and engaging with Musqueam community members (on and off reserve) to encourage participation. This includes door to door outreach, community events, Elders lunches, phone, and email engagement. The Data Collectors will also assist with recording responses (on paper and on tablets) and inputting responses into a digital database. We are currently hiring one full time and two part time casual roles. Depending on the start date of the Musqueam Census, the Data Collectors are anticipated to work from approximately early December 2025 to mid February 2026. The positions will not be working during the MIB office closure from December 22, 2025 to January 4, 2026. In general, work hours will be Monday to Friday between 8:30am to 4:30pm. Flexibility may be required based on outreach needs (for example, attendance at community events in the evenings or door to door outreach on weekends). Flexible work hours will be determined with the employee(s). The full time and part time positions have the same job responsibilities and expectations; the only difference is the hours worked per week. One full time term position is required to work 35 hours per week, for a maximum of 16 weeks. Two part time casual positions will be expected to work an average of 21 hours per week, for a maximum of 12 weeks in total. The Data Collectors are the face of the Musqueam Census. Roles & Responsibilities Contact Musqueam members to participate in the Musqueam Census through door-to-door canvassing (on reserve), telephone calls, mail-outs, social media, and emails Transcribe responses to survey questions (on paper and on tablets) and input data into survey software (training provided) Ensure data collection is confidential, accurate, and culturally appropriate, reflecting Musqueam values Promote and raise awareness about the Musqueam Census at community events Create communications and engagement materials for the Musqueam Census (such as newsletter notices, social media posts, website content) Work as a team with other Data Collectors Other related duties as required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Successful completion of high school or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge, and experience No experience with surveys or data collection required; training will be provided Reliable and self-motivated Respectful, open listener and clear communicator Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times Knowledge of Musqueam community and culture Ability to use tact and good judgement in dealing with sensitive and complex issues Passionate about community engagement, and enjoys working with a range of community members (youth, Elders, etc.) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in note-taking Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Ability to do door-to-door canvassing to households for several hours at a time Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule (including evenings and weekends) to accommodate community outreach and engagement Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines Knowledge of Musqueam’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP), nə́c̓aʔmat tə šxʷqʷeləwən ct (We Are of One Heart and Mind) and hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ is a strong asset Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment as well as outdoors The role may require working outside regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays in order to maximize outreach Musqueam Census survey training will be provided, including data collection, cultural and emotional safety, and communication skills Musqueam Census Data Collectors will work in a team of two when conducting any work outside the office (such as door-to-door canvassing and community events) Depending on households, door-to-door canvassing may include requiring to navigate stairs, ramps, and/or gates Confidentiality agreement Criminal Record Check Why work for Musqueam?
