Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Architecture we are looking for an experienced contract DBA to join our team and help optimise performance across a mission-critical, mature software platform. This is a hands-on role focused on diagnosing and fixing performance bottlenecks and improving schema design.

  • Analyse and optimise slow-running queries across a complex, highly used production database.
  • Review and improve indexing strategy, eliminating redundancy and ensuring coverage for critical workloads.
  • Work with engineering teams to implement pagination, caching strategies, and data access best practices.
  • Redesign and tune schemas where appropriate to improve scalability and maintainability.Support and optimise the Aurora MySQL 2
  • 3 upgrade process, ensuring minimal downtime and performance gains.
  • Identify and eliminate resource bottlenecks, reducing unnecessary cloud consumption.
  • Create repeatable frameworks for query tuning and performance monitoring.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure changes align with business priorities.
  • Document improvements and create guidelines for future maintainability.
