DESCRIPTION

As a Creative Technologist for the MyWorld project at Bath Spa University, you will provide hands-on technical support with immersive technologies like VR, AR, spatial audio, and 360 video empowering colleagues, residents, and community members to explore cutting-edge equipment. This role combines technical problem-solving with knowledge sharing, perfect for someone who enjoys learning new technologies and teaching others how to use them effectively. (This is a part-time 0.4 10-month fixed term contract)

ABOUT YOU

  • Experience using industry standard game engines e.g. Unity or Unreal
  • Up to date knowledge of professional immersive technologies equipment and techniques in the specialist area (e.g. VR, AR, spatial audio etc)
  • Experience of working with immersive technologies
  • Excellent troubleshooting problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A current knowledge of web technologies relating to immersive technologies, e.g. A-Frame or ARCore.
  • A demonstrated ability to support researchers to integrate third-party APIs into immersive or interactive experiences
  • Skills in immersive audio software e.g. Reaper
  • Experience using Motion Capture in projects e.g. Optitrack MoCap system or Perception Neuron MoCap.
  • Excellent immersive technologies industry contacts and active in professional networks and groups in the South West region and nationally

Responsibilities

Within the role, you will help support a range of creative and research projects, providing hands-on assistance with technical equipment, workshops, demos, and open learning sessions. Working collaboratively with MyWorld partners, Bath Spa University colleagues, Studio residents, and students, you will help manage and maintain specialist equipment, oversee booking systems, and ensure accurate inventory records. You’ll play a key role in ordering processes, health & safety compliance, risk assessments, and the overall smooth running of our facilities. Training and development opportunities will be provided as part of the role.
