The North America Environmental Health and Safety Manager builds strong partnerships across Soufflet Malt to lead transformational change in health, safety, and environmental performance. The NA EHS Manager ensures the successful execution of the EHS Plan, policies, and procedures throughout North America Processing operations, fostering a proactive culture of safety, legal compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement that transforms how we work and thrive together.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field required; graduate degree preferred.
- Strong and proven background in ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 (OHSAS 18001) implementation and management.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental auditing and driving positive, measurable improvements in workplace safety and sustainability.
- Proven experience in developing, securing, and managing environmental permits/approvals, including required agency reporting.
- Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships with local, state/provincial, and federal regulators, as well as community partners and industry stakeholders.
- Demonstrated skill in partnering with remote site management teams, senior leaders, and cross-functional teams to drive collaborative solutions.
- Expertise in working alongside Operations and Engineering to identify, develop, and implement sustainable projects that support Soufflet Malt’s emissions and resource reduction goals.
- Successful track record of engaging effectively with Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to achieve positive outcomes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and motivate site leadership, frontline teams, and contractors to embrace EHS practices and values.
- High degree of computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft 365 and process mapping tools.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills for risk, hazard, and incident management, including experience with TapRoot or equivalent root cause analysis methodologies.
- Ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements and translate them into practical procedures and clear guidance for operational teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including negotiation, persuasion, and stakeholder engagement.
- Self-driven, with a strong work ethic and willingness to take on tasks at all levels to support team success.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to sites within North America and internationally (including Canada and Australia); must hold a valid North America driver’s license, passport, and ability to rent vehicles for business travel.
- Capability to deliver in-house training, coaching, and presentations to support EHS learning and development.
Desirable: Certificate in Applied HACCP Principles; engineering knowledge; comprehensive understanding of the malting or food processing industry and equipment; proficiency in French.
