The Position: The Driver provides reliable and safe driving services to the Area Coordinator, programme staff, high-ranking UN officials and visitors in Kandahar and surrounding operational areas. The position reports to the Area Coordinator, Kandahar, Afghanistan. Job Purpose: To provide reliable and safe driving services, you will uphold the highest standards of discretion and integrity; demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility; and ensure compliance with UNFPA security and operational procedures in a high-risk environment. You would be responsible for: Providing reliable and safe driving services by: * Driving UNFPA office vehicles for transport of staff, officials, partners and visitors within Kandahar and other approved locations. * Delivering and collecting mail, documents, supplies and other items. * Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitating transport arrangements when required. * Ensuring timely arrival for meetings while maintaining strict adherence to security protocols. Ensuring vehicle safety and compliance: * Ensuring the vehicle complies at all times with Security Risk Management (SRM) requirements and Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS). * Keeping abreast of road, traffic, weather and security conditions. * Ensuring that seat belts, communication equipment and safety tools are functional. * Acting as focal point for radio or security communication equipment where required. Managing vehicle maintenance: * Maintaining daily vehicle logs accurately and consistently. * Conducting routine checks (oil, water, tires, brakes, battery, lights). * Performing minor repairs and ensuring the vehicle remains clean and in good running condition. * Coordinating major repairs and servicing with authorized service providers. * Assisting in preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and history reports. * Keeping track of insurance, registration and tax documentation. Supporting office operations: * Assisting with basic administrative support when required. * Supporting distribution of documents and supplies. * Translating in local language for official passengers when necessary. * Ensuring proper action is taken in case of accident, in line with UNFPA regulations. Qualifications and Experience:  Education:   Completed Secondary Level Education. Knowledge and Experience:  * Valid Afghan driver’s license is required. * At least two years of work experience as a Driver with an international organization, NGO, embassy or UN agency is required. * A safe driving record is required. * Knowledge of local roads, routes and security conditions in Kandahar and surrounding provinces is required. * Knowledge of defensive driving techniques is required. * Basic skills in minor vehicle repairs and maintenance is required. * Familiarity with UN security procedures is an asset. * Experience operating in humanitarian or high-risk environments is desirable. Languages:  Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto is required. Basic knowledge of English is desirable.
