Join CDM Smith as a Transportation Design Practice Leader within our Transportation Services Group (TSG)! The Practice Leader is a global technical and sales role with responsibility for growing the business through technical advancement, innovative applications, and luminescence.
As a thought leader at CDM Smith, you will present visionary and influential views on transportation design, both within our organization and to clients. This includes all aspects of roadway, highway, freeway, bridge, and multimodal surface transportation design, including conceptual, intermediate, and final design phases, design-build projects, engineering services during construction, and the use of design-related technologies and software. You will also have, and continue to build, strong relationships with DOT clients.

As the Practice Leader and visionary, you will contribute to CDM Smith’s growth by:

  • Advancing the practice through technical ingenuity, innovation, and increasing top-line sales.
  • Positioning the firm technically to stay ahead of emerging marketplace challenges.
  • Collaborating with client service units to pre-position for major pursuits by identifying and showcasing our technical differentiators.
  • Partnering with sales and technical leadership to build strong relationships with DOTs, transportation agencies, and local clients, with the ability to work successfully across markets.
  • Leading technical luminescence activities, including conference presentations, technical papers, and webinars.
  • Recruiting and retaining top strategic technical talent and the best and brightest employees.
  • Developing, mentoring, and guiding technical specialists and discipline leaders within the practice, while driving innovative ideas in research and development.
  • Fostering continuous improvement, a culture of quality, accountability to commitments, and CDM Smith’s core values, while challenging the status quo.
  • Pursuing and applying innovative technologies that give CDM Smith a competitive edge and help our clients achieve more for less.
  • Leveraging the advantages of a matrix organization to grow the firm while keeping our existing clients “CDM Smith clients.”

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Transportation, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional engineering (PE) license.
  • 15 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of engineering design principles, including computer-aided design and drafting (CADD), as well as proficiency in 3D and 4D software and related practices. They will demonstrate expert proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Excel and Word, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. In addition, they will possess expert knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, as well as key design standards, including AASHTO and NACTO.
