JOB DESCRIPTION

This role will be embedded within the ICS vetting team and will primarily partner with the AI security Institute, progressing cases as quickly and effectively as possible.

As well as occasionally deputising for the Senior Personnel Security Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and be the point of contact for the bespoke vetting services provided to core DSIT staff, as well as Partner Organisations, Executive Agencies, and Arm’s Length Bodies. This also includes specialist teams set up within the departments to respond to specific policy tasks.
  • Provide a service within the agreed SLAs and KPIs, maintaining accurate management information, and seeking continual improvement for both our service and processes.
  • Receive security clearance correspondence from UKSV and disseminate to applicants and line managers.
  • Lead on vetting aftercare services for the departments, such as drug testing process, and the annual security assessment forms.
  • Support teams through insider risk methodologies, including role mapping and critical assets assessments.
  • Provide vetting assurance for pass applications.
  • Implementing ICS overseas security policy, including conducting initial security risk assessments of staff travel requests, and providing routine overseas security advice.
  • Undertaking review of complex vetting cases where additional decision making against the Vetting Decision Making Framework is required.
  • Arrange and lead security briefs for staff that require additional information, either for travel or as part of their vetting application.
  • Support the Senior Personnel Security Manager in providing up-to-date personnel security management information to the departments and Partner Organisations on a monthly basis.
  • Perform appropriate secondary duties as the need arises by the management team to maintain cross-functional security resilience and as part of your development.
  • Fulfilling an occasional on-call Duty Officer requirement (approx. 6 times a year)

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We would love to hear from you if you have a genuine interest in security and improving departmental security culture.

Our ideal candidate will: -

  • Have a flexible, team player attitude, encouraging collaborative team and cross-department working
  • Be an excellent communicator with a customer-focused approach, able to lead, and work within, a small team
  • Be able to build effective relationships, engage and negotiate with key stakeholders and staff at all levels of seniority
  • Have an analytical approach, a strong eye for detail and the ability to identify areas for improvement and suggest solutions.

Successful candidates must pass disclosure and barring security checks. If successful, you must also hold or be willing and able to obtain security clearance to SC level. You do not need to already hold SC to apply. We will sponsor you through the process but any offer will be conditional until SC is obtained.
Individuals applying for security clearance should usually have been continuously resident in the UK for the following periods immediately before the clearance is launched:
SC – 5 years
DV – 10 years
If you have spent more than six months resident outside the UK within these timeframes then you are still encouraged to apply. Eligibility for security clearances will be assessed on a case by case basis but in some instances, it may not be possible to take forward applications from those who do not meet residency requirements.
Security experience and knowledge of vetting or supporting a vetting service would be useful, but not crucial, as we can offer the training you need. If you have not worked in a vetting role before but have strong administrative, organisational and other transferrable skills, you should still apply.
This position aligns with the Screening Associate role under the Government Security Profession Career Framework, with elements of the Corporate Enabling Support function. We encourage you to learn more about the Government Security Profession to discover the range of exciting opportunities that are available within this critical function of Government if you decide to join us.

STAGE 1: EXPERIENCE/BEHAVIOUR INTERVIEW

The interview will assess the candidate’s core skills, relevant experience, and technical expertise of the role. During the interview you will discuss general role related knowledge and see if you are aligned with AISI’s culture, mission and values. During this interview we will also assess the Civil Service Behaviours - ‘Delivering at Pace’ and ‘Managing a Quality Service’.
