TITLE: NATIVE AMERICAN STUDENT SERVICES ACADEMIC TUTOR

JOB SUMMARY: The N.A.S.S. academic tutor will work with Native American students within the framework of the school setting to provide support with skill development in math, reading and language arts. The tutor will also provide support to students with organizational skills, time management, and school success.
REPORTS TO: Title VI Coordinator

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate ability to engage in positive interactions with elementary age students; ability to effectively communicate concepts related to student learning and success; maintain confidentiality; and manage positive student behavior in individual, small group, and classroom setting.
  • Certification or an Associate’s degree or 48 college hours.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with elementary math concepts (PK-5), English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking), and proper punctuation, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently and in small group settings.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively use basic office software (e.g. Word, Excel), basic office equipment (e.g. copier).
  • Demonstrate ability to use Google applications and/or ability to learn the use of Google applications.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Part-time during the school day
  • 19.5 hours per week
  • Days and hours to be determined
  • Current certified YPS employees are not eligible during their work day
  • Will travel between multiple elementary sites
  • Hourly Rate:


    • Certified Teachers - $25/hour

    • Noncertified Support - $14.77/hour

    Responsibilities
    • Provide academic instruction and support related to school success in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
    • Support Native American students’ literacy development by using reading and writing strategies appropriate to the students’ level of proficiency.
    • Support Native American student’s math concept development by implementing lessons, activities, and strategies appropriate to the students’ level of proficiency.
    • Assist Native American students in preparing for assessments by reinforcing thinking and study skills and reviewing materials learned.
    • Provide feedback to the teacher regarding Native American students’ progress and challenges in the learning academic content and language.
    • Communicate with teachers, staff, and NASS personnel regarding individual students as related to student achievement, school success, and student and family needs.
    • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and NASS personnel to plan effective interventions and support student achievement based on data derived from students, parents, and staff.
    • Must be able to maintain accurate records (journals, daily logs, spreadsheet, etc.) as well as interpret basic data and information related to student learning and behavior.
