As the Natural Areas Project Manager, you will provide project management and ecological restoration expertise for capital projects within natural area parks and The City’s Ecological Network. You will support multiple City departments to achieve environmental, biodiversity, and climate targets by using restoration best practices and science-based decision-making to restore and enhance natural areas. Primary duties include:

  • Lead multiyear delivery of small to large-scale ecological restoration and natural areas capital projects.
  • Oversee all phases of natural areas project delivery, including assessment, planning, design, procurement, construction, consulting, contract management, and financial management.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams comprised of external consultants and contractors, internal service providers, technical subject matter experts, and summer student technicians.
  • Provide specialized subject matter expertise across multiple business units on ecological restoration and natural areas management best practices.
  • Oversee public engagement and communications related to project updates, with audiences including community associations, Council offices, businesses, and other interest groups.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Project Management, or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in ecological restoration/natural area management or project management, with at least 1 year of experience in each category.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use OR the ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit is required.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Experience in native plant identification, invasive species management, landscape planning and design, parks and recreation, and historical resources is an asset.
  • Experience in wetland restoration or construction, as well as familiarity with ESRI suite, will be considered assets.
  • The successful candidate will have communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, along with a demonstrated commitment to occupational health and safety.
    Working Conditions: This position is primarily office-based, with occasional field visits to project locations. Site visits will include working outdoors in all types of weather and on various terrains.
