JOB OVERVIEW

Performs moderately complex duties reviewing documents and collecting related information to ensure compliance with applicable land development codes and regulations. Perform duties in reviewing, evaluating, and rendering final decisions of natural resources permit applications for the preservation of natural resources for land alteration and landscaping ordinances relative to the retention and protection of trees and vegetation, soil conservation, environmentally sensitive areas and listed plant and animal species. Perform administrative duties supporting the Natural Resources Code Enforcement team with compliance efforts of the Natural Resources Land Development Code, provide customer service regarding permit applications, complaints, and violations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science, Natural Resources, Environmental, or Landscape Architecture; AND
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below. (For education and experience only, does not include legally required Licenses or Certifications.); AND
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

  • Review permit applications submitted by citizens, builders, and developers for complete and accurate information to ensure compliance with the Land Development Code (LDC).
  • Review and approve permit applications and site plans to determine compliance with land alteration and landscaping ordinances relative to the retention and protection of trees and vegetation, soil conservation, environmentally sensitive areas and listed plant and animal species.
  • Verify and research land descriptions utilizing zoning maps, legal descriptions, software, and other related files.
  • Review commercial and subdivision natural resources permits and submit to supervisor for approval.
  • Review and verify wetland setback requirements on site plan submitted with residential permit applications to ensure compliance with County ordinances and regulations.
  • Meet with land development customers seeking the issuance of required permits for land development projects.
  • Helps customers and responds to inquiries/complaints, both in person, by email and by telephone.
  • Coordinate with applicant, developer, project engineer or consultant to resolve problem areas in project design.
  • Assist enforcement inspectors in monitoring project permit compliance, determining violations and recommending corrective action.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with permit and site plan requirements.
  • Conduct inspections related to permit review.
  • Tract the status of requests as they go through the permitting process.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
