QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), BS/AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or marine engineering; or similar background and/or specialized such as significant US Navy enlisted equivalency training with an Associate’s degree will be accepted in lieu of Bachelor’s degree
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in US Naval Ship Engineering, either within the NAVSEA/PEO Governmental Organizations, Shipyard Construction and Repair, Ship Operations (i.e. Naval Officer/Engineer), NAVSEA contractor support, or similar electrical power systems experience.
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time
  • Capable to perform ship checks onboard ships in an industrial environment

Desired:

  • Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD, NAVISWORKS and SKM Power Tools
  • Familiar with Machinery Control Systems and PLC/HMI/Automation
  • Naval Drawing/Alteration experience: ship check/validation, package development, QA, redlines, etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards (e.g., ABS MVR, ABS NVR, ASTM, IEEE 45, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with complex technical issues. The ability to create graphical representations and PowerPoints
  • Strong analytical skills

Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering support to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) or the Military Sealift Command (MSC) on alteration (ALT) drawings and CDRLs.
  • Review and analyze preliminary and functional design documentation of shipboard electrical, marine, control, and alarm and monitoring systems to evaluate their impact on commercial standards and safety practices.
  • Perform contractual specification write-up and review/research regulatory rules and commercial standards.
  • Perform and lead engineering site visits and ship checks at various Navy and Commercial Shipyards and author trip and findings reports.
  • Conduct electrical analyses and calculations to support voltage drop, plant impact, and sizing and selection of electrical components.
  • Lead Junior Engineers in developing 2D electrical design drawings for power, control, and networking systems and provide thorough technical QA of drawings and reports.
  • Development, and implementation of Commercial and Naval engineering requirements in Specifications, including electrical power systems, electromechanical systems and control systems.
  • Perform electrical feasibility and trade-off studies for selection of generators, motors, variable frequency drives, transformers, Uninterruptable Power Systems (UPS), control panels, cables, timers, circuit breakers, power panels, batteries, relays, etc.
  • Collaborate with other QA/review engineering mid-level, senior, and expert staff and generate final electrical technical products (e.g. 2D AutoCAD schematic drawings, Contract Deliverables, reports, etc.).
