Description POSITION SUMMARY Conducts non-destructive testing on machined metal structural components using magnetic particle, liquid penetrate and radiographic testing procedures for defects such as fissures, weld breaks, or fractures on metal parts produced within the facility by performing the following duties. JOB RESPONSIBLITIES Ø Set up and calibrate non-destructive testing equipment Ø Conduct tests to ensure quality or detect discontinuities (defects) using radiographic, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle or other non-destructive testing methods. Ø Work in other methods as specified. Ø Establish techniques for proper examination of objects under inspection, ensuring strict adherence to safety regulations Ø Interpret radiographs, cathode ray tube (CRT) or digital readouts, conductivity meters and visual indicators Ø Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results Ø Organize and report test results Ø May perform other specialized inspections using applicable testing methods Ø Discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications. Ø Analyze and interpret blueprints, data, manuals, and other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment and certification methods, formulas, and measuring instruments required. Ø Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, and work for conformance to specifications. Ø Record and or report the results of the non-destructive test as required on appropriate documents. Ø Interpret results of test to various specifications and standards Ø Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems. Ø Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products, and recommend necessary corrective actions. Ø Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded. Ø Mark items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status. Ø Observe and monitor production operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications and make or order necessary process or assembly adjustments. Ø Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers. Ø Analyze test data and make computations as necessary to determine test results. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Education: Ø High school or equivalent (Required) Experience: Ø Completion of two years of an approved post-secondary science or engineering program and/or equivalent combination of education, verifiable NDT Level II-related work experience in non-destructive testing, and/or documented certified training. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and work instructions. Additional classroom and on-the-job training is required for certification in non-destructive testing. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Level II in 3 methods: Ø Liquid Penetrant certification requires 16 hr formal training course, 400 hours experience in NDT, and successfully pass Level II test Ø Magnetic Particle certification requires 16 hr formal training, 400 hours experience in NDT, 3 months OJT in ASME and pass Level II test Ø Radiographic certification requires 40 hour formal training, 1200 hrs experience in NDT, 3 months ASME OJT and Level II test License: Ø NDT Level II (Required) Ø ASQ certificate (American Society for Quality) (Preferred) Ø 1 year of directly related experience in non-destructive testing Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ø Insert knowledge, skills and abilities, such as knowledge of machines and tools, understanding of work items, skills needed for the position, reasonable lifting of weight, etc. Be sure to use the bullet points. Ø As required by the position, must have the ability to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 "Respirator Protection" regulations with no restrictions that would prevent the proper use and/or seal of the respirator.
