Howmet Aerospace is currently seeking an experienced NDT Level III Examiner or a highly qualified Level 2 to join our team in Hampton, VA. As the NDT Level III Examiner or Senior Level 2 – Operations Leader, you will provide technical leadership, training and strategic direction to ultrasonic inspection operations. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert for ultrasonic testing processes, supporting production teams, leading process improvements and ensuring compliance with customer and industry standards.
This role is central to achieving Howmet’s manufacturing excellence goals and offers the opportunity to influence innovation, team performance and inspection technology at the plant level.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or NDT-related discipline plus current ASNT/NAS 410 Level 3 certification (or equivalent)
  • Associate’s degree in NDT plus 2+ years of relevant experience plus Level 3 certification
  • 4+ years of experience as a certified Level 2 in Ultrasonic Inspection plus Level 3 certification or in progress
  • Vision must meet NAS 410 visual acuity standards
  • Current Ultrasonic Level 3 Certification highly preferred.
  • NDT experience in investment casting environments
  • Formal training in Six Sigma, APQP, SPC or statistical process control
  • Experience auditing to Nadcap requirements using PRI checklists
Responsibilities

WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THIS ROLE?

  • Lead ultrasonic inspection process management for the Hampton facility.
  • Provide technical direction, oversight and mentorship to Level 1 and 2 inspectors.
  • Develop and execute training and certification programs under the company’s written practice and NAS 410 standards.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives focused on quality, safety and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct internal audits, evaluate effectiveness of inspection systems and manage corrective/preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and customer representatives to resolve quality issues.
  • Serve as a Single Point Accountable (SPA) for all contract review activities related to ultrasonic inspection.
  • Implement and evaluate new ultrasonic inspection technologies and capabilities.
  • Act as customer advocate ensuring product and process compliance to customer specifications.
