MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

We are seeking a motivated individual to assist scientific staff within the nematology laboratory within the Cell & Molecular Sciences pathology group located at the Invergowrie Campus.
The post-holder will work across a range of plant-pathogenic nematology projects as required, primarily working with potato cyst nematodes (PCN, Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis). The primary focus of this position will be testing novel bioactive compounds for their impact on PCN hatching, juvenile motility and mortality in addition to greenhouse assays as part of a new EU-funded project (CROPSAFE). The postholder will also be responsible for maintenance of all nematode populations requiring strong time management and flexibility. As part of our wider plant pathology group, the role will involve laboratory, glasshouse and field work across a variety of pathosystems, providing valuable input and support. This role will also involve responsibility as laboratory manager, ensuring the laboratory and equipment are cleaned, managing consumables, following good laboratory practice and managing chemical waste disposal. This post is for 28 hours per week and requires full-time in-person attendance on site and occasional off-site working at other locations for sampling purposes is a possibility.
