POSITION DESCRIPTION
Are you currently a Barwon Health employee? If so, please follow the links below on how to apply.
This supernumerary role is designed to complement and support midwifery care. Neonatal Postnatal Support Nurse (NPSN) will work under the overarching auspice and oversight of the midwifery team and will not be directly allocated patients. In accordance with the NPSN role description the NPSN will support midwives to provide care for a defined group of unqualified newborns requiring additional clinical care in the postnatal ward and support where possible the post-surgical care of women, including those who have undergone caesarean section. Refer to the NPSN role description for further details pertaining to the responsibilities and duties of the NPSN.
The aim of the pilot is to support midwives in the delivery of safe, timely and quality patient-centred care to women and their babies. Additionally, the NPSN will be exposed to the profession of midwifery which is intended to result in the NPSN undertaking post graduate studies in midwifery, neonatal nursing, women’s health or a related field.
A peer support program will be offered to participants of the pilot program for the first 12 months to ensure they receive robust support from leading professionals in nursing and midwifery. The program will be coordinated by Safer Care Victoria (SCV) in collaboration with the Department of Health and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF). After this period, participants will move to local organisational support as required as part of business-as-usual model.
