NETWORK AND SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

The members of the IT Department at D & P Communications bring their respective skills and specialties to form the team that is responsible for the management, troubleshooting, and improvement of core networking infrastructure, service delivery platforms, telephony services, and computing resources.
Successful members of the team are eager to take on new challenges and excel in a dynamic environment. They are team focused, creative thinkers who can plan and prioritize yet remain flexible to address the day-to-day situations that may arise.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer D&P’s core network and service delivery technologies. These include fiber-to-the-premises, DOCSIS, and fixed wireless technologies.
  • Using our core network and service delivery technologies, administer the delivery of Internet access, Metro Ethernet services, telephony services, and IP-based video services.
  • Maintain Windows and Linux servers and other systems to support service delivery and business needs.
  • Maintain internal systems to support company requirements.
  • Undertake IT projects, as assigned.
  • Serve as an escalation resource for other technicians within the company.
  • Recommend improvements to existing systems and new technologies.
  • Perform after-hours maintenance as needed within scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Perform documentation and record keeping of current production systems and changes.
  • Part of IT on-call rotation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Experience, and Training:

  • Previous experience with core networking concepts such as Ethernet switching, VLANs, subnetting, firewalling, NAT, and IP routing – with Juniper hardware.
  • Previous experience with VMWare vCenter and ESXi.
  • Previous experience with Linux and Windows server administration.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices concerning data backups, network security, patch management, monitoring, and documentation preferred.
  • Previous experience with telecommunications systems and central office switching preferred.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information with team members and other department personnel.
  • Ability to function effectively in a team environment.
  • Degree in an IT-related field of study, or relevant industry certifications, or comparable work experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Bending at the waist, sitting, and reaching overhead as job may require.
  • Regularly required to sit, use repetitive motion, type, and communicate over the phone and in person.
  • Efficiently operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other computer components.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, drag, and push equipment and materials weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ascend/descend ladders to remove and rearrange cabling.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
