JOB SUMMARY

The ATS Corporate IT department delivers critical enterprise-wide IT systems and services to over 8,000 employees globally. The Network Architect based in Cambridge, plays a critical role in designing and optimizing ATS’s future-state network architecture. Reporting to the Network Team Lead, this individual contributor will work closely with the global team—including colleagues in India—to define and implement scalable, secure, and resilient network infrastructure in support of business growth and innovation.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technical field.

Preferred Certifications:

  • F5 Certified Administrator (F5-CA)
  • Cisco CCNP or CCIE
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)
  • Zscaler Certified Cloud Professional (ZCCP)
  • ITIL v4 Foundation
  • CISSP (preferred for security-aligned responsibilities)

EXPERIENCE:

  • Ideal candidate has a minimum of 7 years hands-on experience in network architecture within a large, global enterprise.
  • Advanced expertise in F5, Azure networking, SD-WAN, routing/switching, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Proficient with enterprise tools such as SolarWinds, Cisco IOS, Zscaler ZIA/ZPA, and Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Strong understanding of global compliance and cybersecurity standards.
    Work Location: Cambridge, with occasional international travel based on project needs.

Responsibilities

Network Architecture and Design:

  • Design and implement scalable, high-performance network architectures suited for a distributed, global enterprise.
  • Lead the development of SD-WAN, hybrid cloud connectivity, Azure ExpressRoute, and advanced routing and switching architectures.
  • Architect Azure networking solutions including Virtual Network Peering, VPN Gateway, and ExpressRoute to support cloud-first initiatives.
  • Integrate advanced security frameworks using Palo Alto, Zscaler, Cisco Umbrella, and Prisma solutions.
  • Architect and manage F5 Load Balancers to ensure secure, high-availability application delivery.
  • Ensure network solutions support business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, including redundancy and failover planning.
  • Optimize network performance for cloud-based applications and global SaaS platforms.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their relevance to ATS’s long-term IT roadmap.

Strategic Planning and Governance:

  • Contribute to the multi-year roadmap for global networking infrastructure aligned with ATS’s business goals.
  • Define and enforce enterprise network standards, architecture documentation, naming conventions, and governance practices.
  • Ensure all designs comply with corporate policies and external regulations (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2, ISO 27001).
  • Translate complex technical solutions into business language for cross-functional stakeholders and senior IT leaders.

Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with DevOps, cloud architects, InfoSec, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of network services.
  • Support network design elements of M&A integration efforts, including connectivity and security posture alignment.
  • Partner with service and support teams to address network performance concerns and drive user experience improvements.

Vendor and Tool Management:

  • Engage with key vendors (Cisco, Palo Alto, Zscaler, Microsoft) to evaluate and implement leading-edge network solutions.
  • Optimize the use of monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and SIEM platforms.
  • Contribute to tooling automation strategy for provisioning, configuration, and compliance (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).

Security-First Approach:

  • Design network solutions aligned with Zero Trust principles and security-first architecture.
  • Implement advanced threat detection and mitigation using Cisco Umbrella, ZPA, and F5 security modules.
  • Regularly audit and remediate security gaps in global network configurations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Develop and maintain detailed architecture diagrams, configuration standards, and topology documentation.
  • Generate and deliver reporting on network health, security, compliance, and scalability metrics.

Technical Leadership and Support:

  • Serve as a senior technical resource during major incidents, outages, and post-mortems.
  • Collaborate with global teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the broader network engineering function.
