Description

Eckerd College is currently hiring for the position of Network Engineer to join our Information Technology team at our waterfront property along the Boca Ciega Bay in St. Petersburg, Florida, in our relationship-focused community. This position will be responsible for maintaining and securing the campus network (wired and wireless) in collaboration with our network analyst and systems administrators.
As Network Engineer, you will possess a strong understanding of internetworking technologies like VLAN, STP, and QOS, and the ability to configure, troubleshoot and support routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, Static Routing, Policy-Routing).
You will be responsible for continuously developing and maintaining a deep and broad understanding of assigned areas to the campus network and will support and troubleshoot issues pertaining to network switches, routers, firewalls, monitoring tools, and enterprise class wireless access points.

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or 5 years of related experience. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to perform night and weekend work as needed for maintenance tasks or troubleshooting system outages.

  • Knowledge of or experience with Extreme Network switches, Ruckus Wireless access points and SmartZones, SolarWinds, Palo Alto Firewalls, phone systems, VOIP devices, and Zoom Phone preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Monitor, maintain, and ensure stability of the network infrastructure to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.

  • Configure and install routers, switches (single or stacked), and wireless access points.

  • Oversee design and installation of new network infrastructure during campus construction projects.

  • Plan campus network infrastructure repairs and upgrades and coordinate installation work with external structured cable contractors.

  • Maintain redundant campus internet connectivity.

  • Troubleshoot fiber and copper connectivity issues.

  • Maintain the campus firewall and security technologies to protect campus resources.

  • Properly segregate network resources.

  • Ensure professional cable management in network closets.

  • Maintain documentation of campus network design.

  • Monitor and maintain campus voice/VOIP Infrastructure
