About the Role
Nexus Division is seeking a skilled Network Engineer (ANZSCO: 263111) with proven experience in routing, switching, cabling, and network troubleshooting across enterprise and telecommunications environments. This role involves end-to-end support and deployment of network infrastructure, including fibre optics, structured cabling, LAN/WAN support, and fault resolution across Layers 1–3.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong diagnostic skills, hands-on technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network reliability, performance, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure, install, and maintain enterprise LAN/WAN, routing, and switching environments.
  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot telecommunication transmission characteristics to identify and resolve Layer 1–3 faults.
  • Install, terminate, and test single-mode and multimode fibres (OM2, OM3, OM4) using OTDR and Fluke testers.
  • Deploy, test, and support Cat5e and Cat6 structured cabling systems for network and voice solutions.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP-based systems) to identify, diagnose, and resolve issues.
  • Support and troubleshoot voice, video conferencing, and IP surveillance systems across multi-vendor environments (Avaya, NEC, Polycom, Sony).
  • Document incidents, root cause analysis, and preventive actions using ticketing and reporting systems.
  • Partner with senior engineers to support infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and optimisation projects.

Required Qualifications & Skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications, Information Technology, or a related discipline (or international equivalent).

Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, network support, and infrastructure troubleshooting across multiple industries.

Technical Competencies

  • Networking Protocols: TCP/IP, VLANs, Routing, Switching
  • Tools: Wireshark, SNMP-based monitoring systems, Fluke tester, OTDR
  • Infrastructure: Cat5e/Cat6 cabling, fibre optics (single-mode and multimode)
  • Systems: Voice servers (Avaya, NEC), IP/Digital endpoints, Polycom conferencing, IP surveillance
  • Operating Systems: Windows, Linux
  • Productivity Tools: MS Office 365

Desirable Skills

  • Additional certifications in network security or wireless networking infrastructure.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with proven ability to deliver client-focused solutions.
  • Experience supporting enterprise migrations and network upgrades.
