Job Summary : The Network Engineer I supports the operations, monitoring, and maintenance of the enterprise network infrastructure supporting the Department of Labor’s Enterprise General Support System (EGSS). This role assists in maintaining connectivity across a nationwide network supporting hundreds of field locations and thousands of federal users. The engineer works under the guidance of senior network engineers to monitor network health, troubleshoot connectivity issues, maintain documentation, and support network modernization initiatives. Nature of Work Candidates will support a large federal enterprise network that connects 600+ locations and approximately 16,000 users across the United States. Daily work includes: Monitoring network performance Supporting troubleshooting of WAN and LAN connectivity Assisting with router and switch configuration Maintaining documentation and topology diagrams Supporting network upgrades and maintenance activities The environment includes: MPLS WAN infrastructure Cisco enterprise networking equipment Hybrid cloud networking (AWS/Azure) Enterprise security systems Network monitoring platforms Key Responsibilities Monitor network infrastructure performance and availability Assist with troubleshooting network incidents and outages Support configuration of routers, switches, and network devices Maintain network documentation and diagrams Monitor MPLS circuits and WAN connectivity Support incident and change management through ServiceNow Assist with network hardware upgrades and patching Escalate complex issues to senior engineering staff Maintain asset inventory and configuration record Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field 1–3 years of network engineering experience Understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals Experience with Cisco routers and switches Familiarity with enterprise network monitoring tools Preferred Certifications CompTIA Network+ Cisco CCNA Does this opportunity sound like a fit for you?
