Our client is in need of a Network Engineer III for a 6-month engagement with the possibly to convert to full-time. This Network Engineer III will be responsible for finalizing the design and implementation of a BGP network that will serve as the backbone of our ISP. This position is critical to our business, and thus, we are looking for senior-level individuals who have designed and operated provider-grade networks, not just enterprise environments. Responsibilities Core Attributes Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers/switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design. Vendor Experience: Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or comparable platforms. Monitoring & Documentation: NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow, detailed runbooks, and network diagrams. Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers. Soft Skills Strong communication skills to explain complex designs to varied stakeholders. Problem-solving mindset for escalations and critical incidents. Background in municipal broadband or public sector networks is a plus. Qualifications Core Technical Requirements BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios. Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers. Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation. Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM.
