MINIMUM / GENERAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience analyzing, identifying, and resolving complex network hardware, circuit, and transmission logic issues
  • Expertise in designing, installing, and performing acceptance testing of high-speed, enterprise-level networks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of OSI Layers 1–4 protocols, security standards, and design principles

  • Experience assessing and recommending new network technologies to enhance system capabilities

Responsibilities

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under minimal supervision, the Network Engineer will:

  • Design network systems and coordinate their installation and acceptance testing
  • Ensure correct configuration and monitor network hardware operations
  • Plan, evaluate, and recommend network enhancements and upgrades through cost/benefit analyses
  • Guide acquisition, installation, and testing of network hardware
  • Advise users on hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations
  • Troubleshoot network problems proactively or through strategic workarounds
  • Potentially supervise and guide support staff as needed

PROJECT NETWORK ENGINEER — ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Project Network Engineer, you will:

  • Research, design, build, and diagram end-to-end network solutions for assigned projects
  • Develop architecture specifications and assess existing infrastructure against client requirements
  • Lead proof-of-concept efforts; recommend appropriate hardware/software for new technologies
  • Conduct site surveys and serve as Lead Network Engineer on projects
  • Create detailed network designs aligned with DoD standards
  • Collaborate closely with systems engineers, project managers, and stakeholders for project success
  • Stay current with DoD network security policies and best practices
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, installations, and changes
  • Oversee installation and configuration of routers, switches, taclanes, firewalls, and other equipment
  • Design complete network solutions—covering switches, routers, taclanes, F5 load balancers, IP management, VPNs, DHCP, firewalls, etc.
  • Use Visio for diagrams (block, wiring, flow, database, application diagrams)
  • Ensure compliance with network security protocols, including 802.1X, DoD STIGs, SRGs, and accreditation standards
  • Integrate network infrastructure with broader IT and cybersecurity systems
  • Conduct thorough testing to validate functionality, performance, and security compliance
  • Troubleshoot during installation/testing phases and coordinate with procurement teams to source solutions matching project requirements
