The Network Engineer is a member of the IT services team providing Tier 1/2 level support for network and IT infrastructure and projects in a video broadcast facility. They must be resourceful, analytical, and capable of working independently to resolve technical challenges across a complex IT environment. This role requires hands-on experience with a variety of platforms, protocols, and enterprise tools.
The IT services team is expected to support the following core responsibilities:
- First responder to IT/network support emails and break/fix incidents
- Provide support and management to IT systems:
- Networks and network devices, such as Arista/Cisco switches, routers, and security devices
- Servers (hardware, operating system, and network connectivity)
- Production clients (hardware, operating system, and network connectivity)
o Storage systems (SAN and NAS)
o Virtual machines, SQL servers, monitoring, and system management servers
o Terminal/console servers
o DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management)
o KVM systems
- Provide preventative and ongoing maintenance of IT systems:
- Rotating participation in scheduled monthly maintenance windows for updates and major changes
- Provide quick remediation to zero-day vulnerabilities
- Deployment of servers and production clients
- Automation of IT tasks
- Escalation management
- Keep work areas, server room, and offices organized and tidy
- Maintain a flexible hybrid schedule with a regular in-office presence at least 3 days per week. Must also be available for on-site support during major production events, which may occasionally fall outside standard working hours. Some on-call availability required
- Work closely with broadcast engineers and production teams to ensure smooth operations
- Document system configurations
- Document IT practices in SOP/MOP (Standard Operating Procedure/Method of Procedure) documentation
Requirements:
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in network and/or systems administration
- Ability to quickly research and self-educate on new information, technologies, and methods
- Critical thinking skills and strong troubleshooting methodology
- Have the capacity to self-manage and prioritize work
- Strong communication and written language skills
- One or more relevant industry certifications, or equivalent hands-on experience/knowledge:
- Cisco – CCNA, or better
- Arista – ACE Level I, or better
- Proficient knowledge of:
- Networking services (DHCP, DNS, TFTP, CDP, LLDP)
- Routing services (BGP, RIP/IGRP, OSPF)
- Network virtualization (VLAN, VXLAN, network overlays)
- Arista EOS, Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS-XE, and/or Cisco NX-OS switches and routers
- Cisco ASA and FirePower Security Appliances, and/or Palo Alto
- Network monitoring and provisioning tools like SolarWinds, PRTG, and/or Arista CloudVision Portal (CVP)
- Network redundancy protocols (HSRP, VRRP, GLBP)
- Familiarity of broadcast design from an IT networking perspective is a strong plus:
- SMPTE IP Transport standards ST 2110, ST 2022, ST 2019 PTP timing and all supporting industry standards
- Real-time multicast stream delivery: IGMP, PIM/SM, PIM/SSM
- Audio over IP interoperability
- Arista CloudVision eXchange (CVX)
