MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor’s degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) year of installing, configuring, maintaining CISCO network hardware/software with switches, firewalls, routers, IPS, VPN etc.
  • Knowledge of firewall procedures and security review to protect the infrastructure.
  • Should have a working knowledge of Windows Server software, Active Directory-structures, DNS, DHCP and general communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of best practices for secure operation in networking trends for a complex environment.
  • Ability to provide reports and suggest actions to diverse teams on security.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work under pressure.
  • Travel may be required, including overnight travel.
  • This is 24/7 infrastructure support and requires on call response.
Responsibilities

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Maintain CISCO components with firmware, IOS and other upgrades for the continued network service on the SLED infrastructure. Review hardware/software to keep components operational, secure and under maintenance. This includes routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls and centralized wireless AP’s and the components located on all SLED campuses around the State.
  • Serve as liaison for the SLED Server, Security, Application Development and Desktop departments. To access infrastructure needs and requirements as pertains to IT projects for maintaining security compliance, network capabilities and policy standards. Communicate requests and recommendations for these departments to the Network/Security manager for review and approval.
  • Research, review and recommend policy strategies to the Network/Security manager as it relates to the security of the SLED infrastructure for the network hardware topology changes, Active Directory processes, DHCP standards, DNS policies, encryption standards, advance authentication and other IT areas such as VMWARE, IPS, IDS, and DMZ design.
  • Make recommendations for improvements following industry standards and law enforcement information exchange policies, report compliance issues and assist with maintaining and developing policies for the network infrastructure.
  • Prepare and guide audits on various components from a technology and policy perspective with the various technical components at SLED.
  • Other duties as assigned.
