EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS degree with 5 – 8 years of Information Technology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE:

In support of the North Wind IT Infrastructure Organization for the Hanford Site, the System Administrator will be a part of a team responsible for supporting the Hanford’s Information Management System. This position work focuses on installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT systems software and hardware for multi-user server computers and/or personal computing devices associated with Cyber Security tools. It requires strong technical skill to manage the federal information systems and includes analyzing, testing, and supporting innovative technical solutions while ensuring compliance with the highest standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Automating routine tasks using scripting and writing basic computer programs to address more complex systems, software configuration and enhancement.
  • Installing, configuring, patching, upgrading and maintaining infrastructure systems, servers, and network equipment.
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex technical issues, providing support to customers, and documenting solutions.
  • Creating and maintaining IT infrastructure documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Develops and maintains strategies, standards, plans, policies, procedures, and other documentation in support of Department of Energy (DOE) and requirements for federal information systems.
  • Responsible for incident escalation and managing of resources to resolve issues in a timely manner to meet Service Level Agreement metrics.
  • Provide timely, knowledgeable, responsive system support maximizing system uptime, performance, resource availability, and security of the computers managed within established budgets and operational guidelines.
  • Support Disaster Recovery/Continuity of Operations (DR/COOP) exercises, testing and live incidents per procedures and policies.
  • Manage the security controls, governance and compliance of system including audits, assessments, data calls, investigations, incidents, risk assessments, and other duties as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain training materials for applicable systems.
  • Assignments may be broad or narrowly focused requiring considerable judgment and initiative. Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established access controls, safety requirements while maintaining security and integrity controls

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains and supports the integrity of the Operating Systems and various systems associated with Cyber Security tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Acquires, manages, designs, installs, configurations, deployments and maintenance of software and hardware environments.
  • Creates complex scripts to assist with monitoring, diagnostics, problem correction, and automating routine tasks.
  • Recommends and deploys server, hardware, and software, including OS, applications, and patches to support operations.
  • Possess the ability to resolve complex issues using third party diagnostic and monitoring tools, logs, graphs, and performance data to maintain the health and availability of the environment
  • Operates at the direction of Standard Operating Procedures and technical guidelines for critical disaster recovery processes to maintain system availability, health, and support outage recovery activities
  • Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to evaluate and recommend procurements of Windows or Appliance based hardware and software
  • Conduct routine testing of systems and carry out operational tasks, including Application availability and network connectivity testing, etc.
  • Must be able to communicate technical information and product plans to all levels of staff and management
  • Creates, follows and maintains written and verbal procedures; prepares written technical documentation, training material, standards, reports and other documents as assigned; prepares and reviews reports for accuracy security for enterprise and large-scale applications
  • Evaluates systems and alternate solutions; develops functional specifications, standards and requirements for hardware and software purchase and design to ensure optimum system and end user performance; makes recommendations for changes and additional services.
  • Serves as the project leader for major complex projects as assigned.
  • Provides training and guidance to personnel and users regarding the use of assigned systems; prepares related training materials accordingly.
  • Maintains current knowledge of server and networking hardware, software, protocols and best practices related to assigned activities.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports related to assigned activities as required.
  • Communicate with personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to assigned activities
  • Proficient with enterprise organization, operations, policies and objectives.
