We’re looking for an organised, proactive, and solutions-focused Network Planner to join our Transport team, supporting both Skip and Trade Waste operations across Colwick and Leicester. This is a key operational role, responsible for the efficient planning and optimisation of skip deliveries, collections and exchanges, alongside trade waste collection routes. You’ll play an important part in maximising vehicle utilisation, maintaining compliance, controlling costs, and ensuring a high standard of service for our customers. Working closely with drivers, transport management and customer service teams, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can think on their feet, and takes pride in keeping operations running smoothly. Key Responsibilities As a Network Planner, you will be responsible for planning and optimising daily skip delivery, exchange and collection routes, as well as managing trade waste collection rounds. You will ensure efficient job sequencing to reduce fuel costs, minimise travel time, and maximise vehicle utilisation, while planning work in line with driver hours regulations and company policies. You’ll react dynamically to operational changes such as late bookings, cancellations, vehicle breakdowns, and urgent customer requests, helping to keep service delivery on track throughout the day. The role also involves liaising daily with drivers, yard staff, customer service teams and management, issuing route plans and job sheets, monitoring vehicle progress using tracking systems, and making real-time route amendments where required. You will support compliance by ensuring routes align with driver hours rules, working time requirements, and waste stream allocation requirements, while maintaining accurate records of scheduled and completed jobs. In addition, you’ll monitor route efficiency and performance indicators, identify opportunities to reduce operational costs, support fleet efficiency, and assist in resolving service issues or missed collections. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Experience in transport or logistics planning Strong route planning and geographical knowledge Understanding of driver hours regulations and transport compliance Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Excellent communication skills IT literacy, including routing software, Excel and fleet systems Experience within the waste, recycling or construction sector is desirable We’re looking for someone who is highly organised, methodical and calm under pressure, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
