Overview: Full-time, Continuing position HEW 7 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, and hybrid ways of working Position Summary Information Technology Services (ITS) provides RMIT University with Information and Communication Technology systems and services. Our role is to support RMIT’s high quality teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. Information Technology is of increasing importance to the research, teaching and learning life of a university, particularly a ‘global university of technology and design’ like RMIT. ITS has developed, in conjunction with the broader University, an ICT Plan to 2020. This plan highlights five goals for ICT within RMIT. The Global Networks Team provides expert knowledge and thought leadership in supporting the RMIT Network and Telephony Infrastructure in alignment with the ITS strategic vision. The Global Networks Team is a part of University Operations and is accountable for: Supporting and Maintaining the Network Infrastructure Providing consistent strategic guidance. Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiencies. The Network Specialist Role is within the ITS University Operations Global Networks Team. http://www.rmit.edu.au/its The Network Specialist will provide support and thought leadership for the Global Networks Team. The Network Specialist will perform a lead role in the management of fault resolution for Network related technologies and where escalation is required seek external vendor support. The Network Specialist is an expert advisor to the Global Networks Team and coaches and mentors other Engineers within the team. Key Selection Criteria Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand the business requirements and business value of the initiative(s) and act as an advocate for achieving this. Collaborate with external and internal partners to provide an ongoing contribution towards the Global Network roadmap. Act as a trusted advisor in the effective use of Network Technologies to achieve business outcomes. Collaborate with the ITS CTO practice to ensure the overall architectural roadmap is in alignment with the organisational strategy, Enterprise Architecture and ICT Plan. Collaborate with key stakeholders to support delivery outcomes. Contribute to the effective management of risks and issues associated with infrastructure design. Develop and maintain close working relationships across RMIT ITS, business stakeholders and external parties. Maintain depth of knowledge and understanding of key industry trends and the range of vendor solutions available for delivery of infrastructure services in a large, complex environment. Designing, monitoring and supporting LAN/WAN to provide effective, reliable and secure transport of communication. Troubleshoot problems with Network Infrastructure and make corrective actions when necessary. Key Selection Criteria 5+ years of experience in leading, designing, deploying and optimising scalable Enterprise and Data Centre solutions. Design, configure, and maintain enterprise network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, wireless, Security and cloud networks, extensive experience with equipment from Cisco, Aruba, Arista products. Advanced proficiency with Routing and Switching technologies such as BGP, OSPF, Spanning-tree,VPN etc. Experience In large and complex projects, particularly focusing on ACI Multisite/Multipod, NextGen DC, VXLAN, Nexus Dashboard. Proficiency in Cloud Solutions (AWS, Azure) Exceptional communication skills, capable of translating complex technical issues for both executive and non-technical audiences Proficient in documentation, technical writing, and reporting Experience in large-scale automation deployment project by Automation tools, proficiency in Ansible, Python, Bash shell and Terraform scripts. Familiarity with CI/CD toolchains, DevOps principles, IoC, Kubernetes Cluster, YAML, Git, Linux CLI as well as the ability to work with various programming languages (Python, PowerShell). Understanding of AI principles, tools and use cases, Awareness of third-party products/solutions in Network, DC and related technologies Proven experience in Routing, Switching and Citrix NetScaler Load Balancers at a CLI level Demonstrated understanding of Large-Scale Aruba AOS8/AOS10 Wireless Technology or equivalent. Experience in networking tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk and Elastic. Demonstrated experience in Infrastructure Solution Design including (but not limited to) Network, Security and Cloud Based Services. Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships in a collaborative and engaging manner with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated understanding of working in complex environments. Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise activities. Demonstrated superior analytical, communication and technical documentation skills. Qualifications Degree in Information Technology, and/or related Vendor Certifications.
