Description
The Legislative Research Commission is accepting applications for the position of Network Systems Administrator in OCIT. This position is nonpartisan in nature and requires the ability to work with neutrality in a politically charged environment.
The Legislative Research Commission provides staff support to the Kentucky General Assembly. The agency offers unique opportunities to people seeking fulfilling, challenging, and rewarding careers. This is a permanent, full-time position with benefits including health and life insurance; retirement plan; and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days. Compensatory time is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis with prior approval.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in maintenance and implementation of the backend systems for the VoIP system and database systems.
  • Maintain and support Active Directory, email systems, file transfer systems, network and PC management systems, wireless networks, and remote access methods.
  • Maintain network documentation and configuration information.
  • Assist in network and communications planning.
  • Analyze requirements and assist in the selection, installation, testing, and support of networking devices including PCs, servers, storage, switches, firewalls, antivirus, and backup solutions.
  • Stay current with IT technology and operating methods.
  • Provide basic technical support of networking issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems under pressure.
  • Proficiency with current office technology, including office IT general business software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge or experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  • Knowledge of hardware and network technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.) as well as Linux containers and Docker.
  • Some programming and scripting language knowledge and experience, PowerShell & Python preferred.
  • Ability to manage a small project.
  • Experience with Microsoft SCCM/MECM is preferred.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in information technology or related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Knowledge base generally acquired from a college degree or equivalent training. Limited relevant experience may be required.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Education may be substituted for experience and experience may be substituted for education at the discretion of the supervisor/manager.
