JOB SUMMARY

Provide overall support and recommendations for the design installation and maintenance of both wired and wireless local and wide area networks to assist inter-district connectivity and connectivity to the Internet; as well as to support teaching and learning. Work is characterized by the management processes, independent decision-making in alignment with department objectives and District goals. Performs duties with minimal supervision and assists with the training and mentorship of others as needed.

  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum two years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in network engineering. Demonstrated competence installing and maintaining wired and wireless networks.
  • Interpersonal/Communication Skills: Works well with diverse populations of students and adults. Strong communication skills including listening, problem solving, and de-escalation. Remains open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive work environment.
  • Computer Skills: Expert level knowledge of computer usage and ability to use, e-mail, internet software and word processing software. Basic programming ability. Intricate knowledge of network infrastructure, including both wired and wireless, as well as security protocols, access control, and any IP based technology.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Oregon Driver’s License. Current Network Certification.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other related duties may be assigned.

  • Evaluate, recommend, design and implement wired and wireless networks.
  • Evaluate, recommend, design and implement WAN technologies.
  • Effectively manage complex projects by determining project prerequisites, establishing security specifications, setting milestones, managing time lines, and identifying required human and technical resources.
  • Install and configures wired networks and devices, including switches, routers, firewalls, and web filters, configuration of IP Services (DHCP, NAT, ACLs), and setup of VLANs.
  • Setup of wireless network deployments, including performing wireless surveys; and installing and configuring access points and controllers.
  • Configure WAN technologies, including PTP connections, Fiber, and T-1 lines.
  • Assist with evaluation, recommendation, design and implementation of wired and wireless networks and WAN technologies.
  • Plan and conduct setup and installation of servers, including Microsoft, vSphere, and Linux.
  • Manage VoIP phone configurations
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve network connectivity issues.
  • Oversee inventory of hardware, peripherals, and software licenses.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of available computer software and computer usage in schools; upgrades computer skills as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensures the security of confidential records and inquiries.
  • Serves as resource to staff in answering questions and assisting in effective utilization of District technology.
  • While working collaboratively with others, implements decisions within ASD established policies and procedures.
  • Professionally represent the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with District and building administrators and other department staff to provide reliable service to customers.
  • Participate as an effective team member.
  • Provide impeccable customer service.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual.
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all applicable District policies and procedures.
