New Patient Coordinator - Orthopedic Clinic SUMMARY The person in the position of New Patient Coordinator provides indirect patient care in the office setting. Receives and processes all incoming referrals, contacts and schedules patient with new patient appointment information. The individual in this position must meet the communication needs of the patient/family, office staff and the medical staff.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Includes but not limited to the following: * Responsible for the completion of all incoming new patient referrals as assigned. * Schedules new and return appointments according to scheduling parameters set for each provider. * Ensure the patient’s referral is authorized, chart is up to date with patient demographics and insurance information is verified prior to new patient scheduling. * Registers all patients accurately in EMR system; and mails a new patient packet to all patients. * Explains registration process and provides directions to new patients; may explain procedure preparation to patients. * Coordinates the scheduling of new patient referrals in a timely manner, accurately documents the communication outcome in referral record and follows the approved organizational scheduling protocol within the EMR. * Transcribe and electronically file external incoming new patient referral into EMR  * Scans all supporting patient visit documentation into EMR. * Understands SVMH Financial Policy and can explain the policy to patients. * Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner * Offers assistance and support to co-workers as necessary. * Maintains a good working relationship with office staff members and physicians. * Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE            The employee performing this position is expected to hold a High school diploma or general education degree (“GED”); and at least three months (preferably six months) related experience (e.g., health care setting, customer service, etc.) and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The employee performing this position is expected to have some experience with medical terminology and understanding of medical insurance process. S/he must be able to understand or quickly learn about the differences between and among patients with private insurance, Medicare, Workers’ Compensation and self-paying patients, etc. PREFERRED Bilingual may be required at certain clinics or during certain shifts. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
