Description
Description As a New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer, you will be the bridge between design and manufacturing. You are the critical link that ensures a product moves from a build-to-print or in-house prototype to a high-quality, scalable, manufactured product. You’ll collaborate with the Business Development, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to ensure that "buildability" is baked into the product from day one. This position not only handles new products but also the support of existing products. Position Responsibilities: · Interpreting Drawing: For build-to-print designs, the NPI Engineer will interpret the drawings and use it to create an in-house BOM for the design. · Design for Excellence (DfX): For in-house designs, collaborate with Design Engineers to implement Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and Design for Assembly (DfA) principles, reducing costs and assembly complexity. · Design and Make Manufacturing Jigs and Fixtures: Using our in-house machine shop and, 3D printing, and other techniques, make jigs and fixtures as needed. · Production Readiness: Develop and oversee the implementation of manufacturing processes, including assembly instructions, tooling, and workstation layouts. · Quality & Testing: Define quality standards and testing protocols. You will work with the Program Management or Business Development teams for the First Article Inspection (FAI) process and ensure the production line meets all yield and reliability targets . For Build to Prints, first articles are built and approved by the customer. · Vendor & Supply Chain Liaison: Work with Procurement to ensure external vendors source components and ensure that third-party manufacturing partners are equipped to meet technical specifications. · Continuous Improvement: Identify bottlenecks during pilot runs and implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to streamline production. · Project Management: Own the NPI schedule. You’ll manage timelines from the prototype phase through the final "hand-off" to the high-volume manufacturing team. · Support: Support existing products released in manufacturing in process improvements (build dynamics, fixtures, improve efficiencies) and support procurement raw material build transition from one vendor to another Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering. Technical Savvy: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and experience with Oracle and Agile ERP/PLM systems. Use of 3D printers. Analytical Mindset: Strong grasp of statistical process control (SPC) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Communication: Ability to translate complex technical jargon into clear instructions for shop-floor operators and executive stakeholders. Adaptability: The NPI environment is fast-paced; you need to be comfortable with "pivoting" when a prototype doesn't behave as expected. Industry: Proven experience in electronics manufacturing, wire cable manufacturing, box build manufacturing, Knowledge of software development lifecycle and version control systems Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies. Prior history of launching hardware products in a regulated industry (e.g., Medical, Aerospace, or Automotive). Knowledge of automation and robotics in assembly lines. · Ability to work well in a fast paced, changing environment · Ability to lift, push pull and carry materials up to 10 lbs,, · Ability to operate tools machinery or office equipment safely. · Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels. · Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
